Akhepran International Academy traces its origins to June 2011 when Dr. Jacinta Higgs and Mrs. Rhonda Wright convened the first meeting for prospective parents at the Kem En Het Heritage Center. By September of the same year, one hundred and nine (109) students eagerly commenced their educational journey at Akhepran.
Established in Fox Hill Village, Akhepran aimed to prepare scholars to become conscientious citizens and proactive, innovative global leaders. Pioneering as a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) School, technology became an integral part of the learning process from the outset.
Over time, Akhepran has dedicated itself to teaching both standard European and African curricula while embracing a holistic approach to education. The institution's guiding philosophy centers around the "Trinity of Teaching," which focuses on developing scholars' discerning of their divine, God-given skills (Passion), exploration of science and subjects (Profession), and connection with their spirit (Purpose).
The name "Akhepran," derived from the Ancient African Kemetic word "Khepri," symbolizes the resilient scarab beetle, embodying attributes of divine strength and self-transformation. Scholars are encouraged to emulate the focus and discipline of this remarkable insect, remaining steadfast in the face of life's challenges.
Adinkra Symbols, strategically placed around the Kem En Het facility, serve as constant reminders of the wisdom and values of African ancestors. Crafted by Bahamian sculptor Tyrone Ferguson, these symbols carry profound meanings, emphasizing principles such as the supremacy of God, respect for elders, unity in family and community, strength and self-discipline, and the importance of love, forgiveness, and peace.
As Akhepran enters its thirteenth year, the curriculum has explored an array of subjects, including Introduction to Law, Project Management, Sustainable Development Goals, Mandarin, Portuguese, Igbo, Yoruba, Ewe, Culinary, Dance, Music, and Art, among others. Scholars have actively participated in addressing global issues through immersive trips to Egypt and New York. These experiences significantly enhance the educational journey, fostering a broader perspective and nurturing a sense of global citizenship.
The history of Akhepran reflects a commitment to excellence in education and the ongoing pursuit of cultivating resilient and enlightened leaders for the future.
